SRINAGAR: Two landmines were detected and safely destroyed by the Army along the Line of Control in Mendhar sector of Poonch district on Monday, officials said.
The explosives were spotted by Army personnel during a patrol near the border fence at Basooni Top at around 9.50 am, the officials said.
The area was subsequently cordoned off and the Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad destroyed both landmines through controlled explosions. No damage was reported in the operation.
Officials said forward areas along the LoC contain landmines as part of the anti-infiltration obstacle system. Some of these devices can be displaced by rain and later surface in areas where they are detected and either defused or destroyed by trained personnel to prevent accidents.
