SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested five militant associates in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

A police spokesman said that Bandipora police busted two militant modules and arrested five associates of the banned outfit Lashkar-e- Toiba, who were providing logistics and transportation to militants in the districts.

“In one case, on a specific input security forces recovered two Chinese Grenades in Bandipora along with militant associates identified as Irfan Ahmad Bhat R/o Ashtango, Sajad Ahmad Mir R/o Arin, Shariq Ahmad Mir R/o Arin and Irfan Ahmad Jan R/o Qazipora Bandipora who were providing Sims and other logistic support to militants and other incriminating material was also recovered from their possession,” said the spokesman.

“Whereas during Naka at Rakh Hajin, forces arrested one militant associate namely Irfan Aziz Bhat R/o Hajin and recovered one Chinese grenade from his possession,” he said, adding that “the said associate was also in touch with Pak based militant Umer Lala and slain militant Saleem Parray of Hajin.”

“The said militant associate along with his Pakistan based militant was planning to create a militant incident in Hajin area,” he further added.

“In both the cases, cognizance has been taken in Police station Bandipora and Hajin under the relevant section of the law and further investigation taken up,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
