SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have two recently recruited militants and four militant associates in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

A police spokesman in a statement said that Police in Anantnag have arrested two newly recruited militants and four militant associates, linked with proscribed outfit LeM/JeM.

“Acting on a specific information regarding the militant attack in Anantnag/ Bijbehara towns by Lashkar-e-Mustafa (Parent Organization JeM), Police along with 3RR established special checking points at multiple locations and conducted intensified checking,” said the spokesman.

“Meanwhile at one of the checkpoints established at Donipora Bijbehera, officers intercepted a vehicle Alto K-10 bearing registration No. HP12C 0981 with two persons on board. They were signalled to stop however, they tried to flee from the spot but the alert joint forces apprehended them tactfully,” he said.

“They have been identified as Imran Ahmed Hajam resident of Nathpora Khanabal and Irfan Ahmed Ahanger resident of Nandpora  Khanabal. Both have recently joined militant ranks and are affiliated with proscribed outfit LeM/JeM,” he added.

The spokesman said that incriminating material, arms and ammunition including two Pistols along with three magazines and 116 rounds were recovered from their possession.

“When officers spoke to them they revealed that they have joined LeM outfit recently and divulged that LeM was recently floated to give an impression that militancy in Kashmir is indigenous and not sponsored by Pakistan, they further revealed that they are close associates of Hidayat Malik @Hasnain resident of Sharafpora Shopian, a self-styled Chief of LeM, Umer @ Wahid Khan resident of Shopian and  Aftab @Ali Bhai resident of Dachipora and they were carrying recee of the area to plant an IED in order to target forces,” said the spokesman.

“During the further course of the investigation, 04 militant associates of proscribed outfit JeM were arrested from different locations,” he said, adding that they have been identified as Bilal Ahmed Kumar resident of Heff Shopian, Tawfeeq Ahmed Laway resident of Pushwara Anantnag, Muzamil Ahmed Wani resident of Muniward Anantnag and Aadil Ahmed Rather resident of Khandipari Harnag.

“Incriminating materials, ammunition and explosive substance including 02 Grenades, 30 AK-47 Rounds and 01 kg Explosive material were recovered from their possession,” he said.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bijbehara and further investigation into the matter is in progress,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
