SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed in an ongoing encounter with counter-insurgent forces at Hardshiva village of north Kashmir’s Sopore on Thursday.

An official said a Joint team of Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon-and-search-operation after “specific inputs” about the presence of militants in the area.

As such the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a brief exchange of fire, he said.

He said in the gunfight, two militants have been killed and operation is going on. The identity slain militants were not known immediately, said the official.

Meanwhile, authorities have snapped Internet service in Sopore in the wake of the gunfight.
