An official said that two militants were killed so far in the encounter at Rangreth area of Srinagar.
The identity and the affiliations of the slain militants could not be ascertained immediately.
Earlier, a police spokesman said a gunfight broke out between militants and forces at Rangreth area of Srinagar.
