SRINAGAR: The police have booked a PDP MLC for a provocative speech while another MLC was questioned by the state police Crime Branch, reports in media suggest.

Firdous Tak had led a protest in Kishtwar against the strengthening of Village Defence Committees (VDC) in the belt. In his speech, he had alleged that the Government was arming a particular community. In response to his speech, police have registered a case (FIR No 163 of 2019) under section 120-B and 153-A at police station Kishtwar.

Meanwhile, in Srinagar, media reports suggest, PDP former minister Naeem Akhtar was questioned by the state police crime branch over the alleged irregularities in Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC). Akhter was heading the Power Works Ministry, under which JKPCC falls,

Akhter has denied any wrongdoing, insisting he cooperated with the sleuths. The questioning took place at Akhter’s official residence.  “I am sure that truth will prevail,” Akhter was quoting saying by a news agency. “I have done nothing wrong and all due processes were followed.”

The former minister’s questioning involving certain JKPCC works at the Islamic University in Awantipore and the upcoming AIIMS campus in the same belt.
