SRINAGAR: Two soldiers including a junior officer are reported to have been “critically” injured n Poonch. They were injured in an encounter with militants in the Mendhar belt, reports appearing in media said.
The Jammu based spokesperson of the army has said the encounter is going on in forests near Nar Khas.
Lt Col Devender Anand, the spokesman said the encounter started with a fire exchange during late evening hours.
Reports said there could be more injuries. Authorities have halted the vehicular movement of civilians in the hilly areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts. Some reports said the JCO has been killed. The army, reports said were chasing the militants who had killed five soldiers on October 12. The area is located in deep forests between Rajouri and Poonch.
The encounter followed days after the killing of five soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer in Surankote’s Dera Ki Gali belt. Not many details were known after the encounter spilt to the third day. The counterinsurgent forces had killed two militants in the belts in two months.
