Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two south Kashmir residents from Gool area of Ramban district in Jammu region along with the weapon.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “On specific information regarding suspicious movement of some anti-national elements  in Hara area of Gool, a joint operation was launched by Police Component Gool along with 58 RR and 9 Para.”

“During the process of cordon and search, two suspects were apprehended along with arms and ammunition,” he said.

“The duo has been identified as  Showkat Ahmed Sheikh son of Gulam Nabi Sheikh R/o Charsoo,  Awantipora, Pulwama and  Taweel Mohiuddin Dar S/o Gh Mohiuddin Dar R/o Malipura, Kulgam,” he added.

“One AK 47 rifle, One AK 47 magazine, 30 rounds of AK 47 and Indian currency Rs 8771/- has been recovered from them,” said the spokesman.

“In this regard case FIR No 40/2019 u/s 121 A, 120 B, 122 RPC 13/17/19 ULA (P) Act has been registered and investigation taken up,” he said.

“During preliminary investigations, the accused persons have been found affiliated with LET militant organisation and were acting on the instructions of one Naveed @ Abu Talla, an active militant of LET. Further investigation is in progress,” said police spokesman.
