The state government issued a statement late Saturday evening detailing the Udhampur incident. The statement is being published, verbatim, for the interest of the readers.

“A Kashmir bound truck was attacked by a group of miscreants at 2345 hrs last night when bottles containing combustible material were hurled on the truck bearing registration No JK03D 11 42 with three persons on board. The entire incident has been recorded in CCTV footage and one of attackers was arrested immediately by the policemen deployed on patrolling duty. On receipt of leads 4 persons involved in the incident were arrested. The arrested include Harish s/o Chunni Lal Katoch, Bal Bahadur s/o Girdhari Lal, Sandoor Singh s/o Thakur and Suneet Singh s/o Pardeep Singh residents of Udhampur while manhunt has been launched for 5 absconding.

The injured persons include Showkat Ahmed s/o Ghulam Mohammad r/o Islamabad, and Zahid Ahmed s/o Ghulam Rasool r/o Islamabad, while Rameez Ahmed Bhat escaped unhurt and saved the truck.

The accused has been booked and an FIR No 368/2015 lodged u/s 307/336/436/147/148/120-B/427 RPC and 3/5 of Explosives Substances Act. Further investigation in the matter is on.

A case under Public Safety Act has also been framed against the miscreants involved in attacking the truck with petrol bomb.

IT experts have also examined the CCTV footage which establishes involvement of arrested persons. The security has been enhanced along national Highway and in Udhampur town.”
