SRINAGAR: At least 21 people were killed and 61 others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on the Ramnagar–Udhampur route on Monday.

Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, in a post on X, said, “Further update on the Ramnagar–Udhampur accident: 21 casualties so far and 61 injured. The injured have been shifted to Udhampur Hospital, while one critically injured person is being airlifted to Government Medical College, Jammu. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. All possible assistance is being provided. My office is in constant touch.”
Meanwhile, the office of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced immediate financial assistance for the victims from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

In a statement, it said, “While no amount of financial aid can compensate for the irreparable loss of lives in the tragic Udhampur road accident, as immediate relief, the Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 25,000 for those with minor injuries.”

Reportedly, the mishap occurred around 10 a.m as the bus was negotiating a blind curve near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area.
