Srinagar

A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley following the JRL strike call against the Urban Local Bodies Election (ULBE) in Kashmir. The polls were started from today morning.

Restrictions

All shops and other business establishments are closed in Srinagar and the public transport is off the roads. A partial shutdown is also being observed in other districts of the valley.

Earlier, the separatist Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik has called for a shutdown on poll-bound areas.

Meanwhile, the voting in the state is underway. Eyewitnesses said that most of the polling stations remained deserted in the valley while as people in hoards have turned up in Jammu to cast the vote. Heavy contingents of forces have been deployed in and around the polling stations.
