SRINAGAR: An unexploded mortar shell was found near the International Border in Samba district, prompting immediate action by the authorities.
An official said that the shell was spotted by locals in a border area and appeared to be new and unexploded. After receiving the information, a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was sent to the spot.
The squad secured the area and moved the shell to a safe location, where it was later defused in a controlled blast. The explosion caused a loud sound, which led to brief panic among residents in the area.
Officials confirmed that quick detection and disposal of the shell helped avoid possible damage or injury. (JKNS)
