Taking dig at the central government, senior leader of National Conference and Member Parliament Mehboob Beg said that it is unfortunate that even after over six decades GoI need laws like the Unlawful Activities Act or the Armed forces special powers Act to govern a state.

Beg was speaking on a motion moved by the Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde (Amendments in unlawful Activities Act).
“If in a democratic system you need laws like this that means the government has failed to address the aspirations of the people, political or otherwise,” said Beg while speaking in Lok Sabha on Friday.

“Problem with GoI is that when Kashmir goes on a boil, it takes to streets, and then the whole attention goes there with the PM nominating committees, interlocutors to suggest ways and means to address the issue. Once things cool down, then they just forget about the place”, he added.

Bed in his address said that if problems are taken head-on and honest solutions put in place, laws like AFSPA etc won’t be needed. “Our own people should not be and cannot be governed by such laws”, reads the party statement.
