Ruling National Conference Saturday expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic death of a youth in Havoora, Khudwani in Kulgam district of South Kashmir in an incident of alleged firing by the Security Forces, a party statement said.

NC Spokesperson extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. “This is a tragedy that, as is with all such tragedies is incomprehensible and inconsolable. Words fail to express how heart-rending and sorrowful such incidents are. We demand a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to the death of the youth and also demand that responsibility should be fixed. If someone is found guilty of use of disproportionate and unwarranted force, he should be brought to the book and tried under the relevant statutes of law for murder. AFSPA cannot be invoked in a blanket-manner for all such incidents”, the Spokesperson said.

The NC Spokesman asked for the provision of ex-gratia relief to the family of the deceased youth and asked the people to exercise restraint.

Main opposition in state legislature, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strongly condemned the killing of a youth identified as Suhail Ahmad Lone reportedly in security forces’ firing in Khudwani, Qaimoh in Kulgam district late Saturday.

In a statement, the party president, Mehbooba Mufti, expressed her condolences with the bereaved family and prayed for the everlasting peace of the deceased.

“The pain and outrage against Gaza atrocities is understandable and there should be a global concern about such brazen acts of aggression against unarmed civilians,” Mehbooba said.

Mehbooba said that she and her party  has tried to channelize the sentiments of the people on Gaza issue in the highest democratic forum of the country and they will continue to urge the Government of India to use its moral and diplomatic influence in stopping the assault on Gaza.

“The empathy for Palestinians has to be respected wherever it is expressed peacefully and given due space. The government must also deal the situation with care, caution and consideration so as to prevent an escalation which could lead to an unfortunate situation like the one that consumed 120 precious lives in 2010. We would never want the society to get entrapped once again in similar circle of avoidable violence,” Mehbooba said.

Meanwhile Communist party leader in J&K, M Y Tarigami also condemned the youth’s killing and demanded judicial probe into the incident, a party statement said.

“State Secretary CPI (M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said that the culprits must be identified without delay and brought to justice,” the statement read.

While expressing his condolences with the bereaved family, Tarigami lamented that the administration deals with every situation either by imposing curfew or through the use of excessive force against people.

“The CPI (M) leader demanded a time-bound judicial probe into the incident to fix responsibility and punish the culprits to send a message that no one is above the law. Impunity for the killings has to end, or else the consequences can be disastrous,” he observed.
