SRINAGAR: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran shot down a US military Apache helicopter operating near the Strait of Hormuz, warning that Washington “must, of necessity, respond” to the incident.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he had been informed that Iranian forces targeted and downed “one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters” while it was on patrol in the region.
He stated that the two crew members aboard the aircraft were safely rescued and were “fine” following the incident.
Reiterating a firm response, Trump wrote: “The United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack.”
The remarks come after reports of a US Army Apache helicopter going down near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and no independent confirmation has yet been provided regarding the cause or responsibility.
The Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital waterway, has long been a flashpoint in regional tensions involving the United States and Iran.
