SRINAGAR: A male employee of Jammu University was found hanging from a tree inside the university campus on Thursday morning, officials said, triggering shock among staff and students.
The deceased has been identified as Balwan Singh, a middle-aged resident of Hiranagar and an employee of the MBA Department of Jammu University. He was residing in the university staff quarters at the time of the incident.
Officials said the body was found hanging from a tree near the Mathematics Department within the campus. After the matter came to light, police from the Nehru Market police post took cognisance of the incident and rushed to the spot.
The area was cordoned off and preliminary proceedings were initiated. The body was later taken down following due procedure, and further legal formalities were carried out.
Police said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death. (KNT)
