The government on Thursday said that central government has released Rs 15.50 crore for farmers whose land falls within the border fencing in districts of Jammu, Kathua and Samba. Of this Rs 4.27 crore has already been disbursed among the farming community.

The revelations came in response to a question by lawmaker Ramesh Arora in state’s legislative council. Earlier the government informed the state assembly that it is not considering any plan if compensating the farming community for the crop losses whose lands are under LoC fencing.

The government said that it has received Rs 74.34 crore from Delhi of which Rs 63.38 crore goes to land compensation in three districts and Rs 10.96 crores is meant for border outposts.

The amount is to find a security wall on the IB to prevent attacks from the other side of the border.

The government also admitted that under a pilot project MHA has approved construction of 60 community bunkers in Jammu district to help the population survive the border shelling. Every bunker will cost Rs 5 lakh each.
