MLA Langate and AIP chief Er Rashid Wednesday visited Chountimulla village in Bandipora and offered his sympathies to the families of those who were tortured by army a couple of days   back.

Rashid condemned the district administration for its inappropriate action against the accused army personnel and demanded stern action against the accused army men, a party statement said this evening.

Speaking on the occasion he said, “the life of far-flung areas has become miserable due to high handedness of forces and lack of accountability on their part. The forces need to realize that while fighting militants they have no legal or moral authority to torture innocent civilians including women. The behaviour of forces is unacceptable and they need to understand that J&K issue is not only about presence of militants and dealing with them but is actually a political dispute which needs political solution.”

“He was told by the villagers that the Army has put a gate on the entrance of the village which gets closed in the evening and is not opened even if any emergency arises for the people. MLA Langate was shocked to learn that just before three days one Bashir Ahmad died when he fell ill and army didn’t open the gate to make villagers take the patient to a hospital outside the village,” the statement alleged.

Rashid termed this inhuman and assured the villagers of taking up the matter with top brasses in civil and police administration and he warned that such inhuman acts will be fought out tooth and nail and forces or someone else will not be allowed to treat Kashmiris like animals.

“Rashid reminded Mufti of his sermons of resolving issues “Grenade Se Na Gooli Se Baat Banegi Booli Se” and condemned the ruling coalition for leaving innocents of Chountimulla at the mercy of forces,” the statement added.
