SRINAGAR: The encounter in Kalgai village of Uri is still under way. Intermittent exchange of fire is going on between the two sides, reports reaching here said.

Informed sources told Kashmir Life that while one militant has already been killed; various people have survived with injuries. Around soon a soldier was injured and has been shifted out to hospital. He was identified as Chandra Bhan, a Hawaldar.

Three civilians were also injured and have been evacuated to the hospital. They were identified as Mohammad Rafiq son of Mohammad Israel, Sakina Begum wife of Mohammad Ashraf and Abdul Hamid Khan son Qutubuddin Khan.

Police or army officials are not offering any details of the happenings inside the Artillery camp. Not much is known about the operation that started slightly after the midnight. In Srinagar, the reports suggest three to four militants have gone in and were detected which started the operation. The village is a forward position and not far away from the Line of Control.

Already, two soldiers were reported injured in Balakote sector when India and Pakistan army resumed shelling on each other’s positions. They were injured when the rival sides fired at each other for almost half an hour. Reports quoting defence spokesman said Pakistan shelled forward positions along the LoC in Bhimber Gali resulting in splinter injuries to two soldiers.
