SRINAGAR:  Hundreds of devotees on Monday thronged the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Bahauddin Gunj Baksh (RA) at Qutub-ud-Din Pora Nowhatta in Shaher-e-Khaas to participate in Urs celebrations of the Sufi Saint.

Voices of hundreds echoed with the recitation of verses of the Holy Quran. Concluding special prayers were also offered by people from different spheres of life at the shrine in Sheh-re-Khaas.

The annual Urs celebrations of the Sufi saint are held every year from 1st to 4th Rajab (the seventh month of the Islamic calendar and special prayers are held on 5th Rajab). The Urs was organized by Intizamiya Committee of the Shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Bahauddin Gunj Baksh (RA).

Belonging to Silsilaye Kubravi, Hazrat Gunj Baksh RA lived in the era of Sultan Zain-ul-Abideen (Badshah). The sufi saint departed this life on 4th Rajab 843 AD and was laid to rest at present Qutub-ud-din pora, Nowhatta.

The Sufi saint is popularly known for his epithet Gunj Baksh in Kashmiri. On the occasion, devotees remembered and stressed the contributions made by the Sufi Saint.
