SRINAGAR

A three-tier security ring has been thrown around the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar where the main parade will be held on August 15, official sources said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will unfurl the tricolour and take salute at the main parade at the stadium. The stadium was taken over by the security forces three days ahead of the parade.

They have banned all entry except through a strictly enforced access control system and authorized passes.

Forces have installed extra CCTV cameras inside and around the stadium and in other sensitive places of the city.

According to sources an effective anti-sabotage mechanism has been put at place. They said that sharp shooters have been deployed at positions around the stadium and also at some buildings near the venue.

Fewer vehicles on Srinagar roads are plying on Thursday as people preferred to stay indoors or move out to Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg.

Police and Para-military troopers are keeping a close watch on the pedestrians and dozens of checkpoints have been created by erecting barbered and concertina wires.

Private as well as public vehicles are being thoroughly checked and people are being questioned abour their identities resulting in chaos and tension in and around the summer capital.

All the separatist leaders have called for a protest shutdown on August 15 against what they call “continuing subjugation of Kashmir by India”.

Pertinently two policemen and a civilian were killed in Pampore town of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday night in an attack by Militants.
