VC IUST, Director SKPA, others meet Lt Governor

Dr S D Singh, Director Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Udhampur, called on the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu at the Raj Bhavan Jammu on Saturday.

Dr Singh briefed the Lt Governor about the on-going training programme being conducted at SKPA and informed that the Academy is equipped with latest facilities to train the Police professionals for taking on new challenges.

The Lt Governor emphasized the importance of imparting advanced training, identifying the training needs of the J&K Police at various levels and structure dedicated courses for the same for the overall development of the Police Force.

Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Member, Central Waqf Council, also met Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu at the Raj Bhavan Jammu.

Dr Andrabi briefed the Lt Governor about the measures being initiated by the Council in monitoring the implementation of the provisions of Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2013 in States and Union Territories, rendering legal advice on protection and retrieval of the Waqf Properties and for removal of encroachment and implementing Educational and Women Welfare Schemes for skill development and to empower the poor, specially Women.

The Lt Governor urged Dr Andrabi to continue their endeavours as an Advisory Body to the Central Government on matters concerning the working of the Waqf Boards and the due administration of Auqaf.

Prof Mushtaq A Siddiqi, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), also met Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu.

Prof Siddiqi briefed the Lt Governor about various issues relating to the academic and administrative importance of the University.

The Lt Governor urged Prof. Siddiqi to adopt various innovative and reformative measures to develop the IUST as a centre of quality teaching and research activities.

Meanwhile, Thomas Mathew, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India (RBI), met Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu at the Raj Bhavan.

Mathew briefed the Lt Governor about the role played by the RBI in facilitating various banking operations in J&K to promote the socio-economic growth of the Union Territory.

The Lt Governor urged Mathew to take all necessary measures to secure financial objectives by the banks as per the laid down policy for their smooth functioning and economic growth of the UT.

Vibod Gupta, former MLC, called on Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu at the Raj Bhavan Jammu.

Gupta submitted a memorandum of demands pertaining to reservation of Pahari Speaking people of J&K, abolition of SRO 202, introduction of Sanskrit as a subject in Mata Vaishno Devi University, framing of transfer policy for female ReT teachers on compassionate grounds, regularization of coal mine workers of Kalakote, early start of four-laning of Jammu- Poonch highway from both sides and starting the survey for the rail link between Jammu and Poonch.

He also put forth several issues and demands related to the welfare of people of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch including developing seven lakes of twin border districts as a major tourism circuit, upgradation of status of Rajouri Municipality to Municipal Council, widening of various roads, proper sewage system for Rajouri and Poonch towns, construction of bridge between Rajouri town and New Bus Stand, augmentation of water supply in Rajouri, construction of a 2 X 200 MVA, 400/132 KV Grid Station at Dangri in Rajouri and strengthening the road connectivity in both the districts.

The Lt Governor assured Gupta that all the genuine demands and issues put forth by him would be looked into meticulously for their early redressal and urged him to continue his endeavours towards promoting public welfare.

Meanwhile, Ashok Koul, General Secretary, J&K, Bharatiya Janata Party, called on the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu.

Koul apprised the Lt Governor about various issues relating to public welfare and holistic development of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lt Governor urged Koul to continue his sustained efforts for ensuring public welfare.
