Expressing deep anguish over the killing of a mother-son duo by the Village Defence Committee members, the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Chairperson, Shabir Ahmad Shah on Friday said the VDCs “are actually the criminals that have found shelter in the so-called committee and now openly perpetrate crimes hassle-free”.
“We had opposed the VDCs since their inception as we knew they were a bunch of criminals and hooligans involved in all types of crimes against people,” Shah said in a statement issued to press. “VDCs were initially created as a front against the pro-freedom people and, with the passage of time; they started making lives of common people particularly the Muslims hell.”
“On one hand, the presence of more than 7 lakh forces have already terrorized the people, and now, these VDC goons have been given an open deal to kill people,” he said.
Terming the “hue and cry” made by the National Conference as “drama”, Shabir Ahmad Shah said that NC, during its tenure, played a pivotal role in the creation of VDCs and PDP, for its political interests, is trying to cover up the crimes of these “terrorist” forces.
“And now, the statement of Nirmal Singh regarding VDCs vindicated our apprehensions that these are a committee of gangsters with grave criminal backgrounds and are used against the Muslims,” he said.
“Last year, when we made out program to visit the Jammu, Doda, Thathri, Rajouri and Poonch, we were not allowed from Thathri by the VDC goons. We will not get scared by these terrorists and will continue our freedom struggle. Such measures have been adopted against us since last 69 years but our resolve has only increased,” he said.
Shabir Ahmad Shah paid glowing tributes to Umais Ahmad Sheikh who was killed in a brief encounter in Bandipora.
While addressing a funeral procession of Shaheed Umais on telephone, Shah said, “We are committed to our martyrs’ mission which will be accomplished at any cost”.
Meanwhile, a DFP spokesperson, while condemning the continuous detention of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) Chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, said, “even in this old age, there is every kind of restriction and curb on the activities of the octogenarian leader who is even barred from performing his religious obligations.”
“This is a sheer state terrorism the example of which is hard to find anywhere in the world. Here, authorities are perpetrating such acts just to please their masters in New Delhi,” he said.
The spokesperson severely condemned the continuous arrest of the incarcerated Chairman of Muslim League, Masarat Alam Bhat saying, despite repeated court directions of his release, the pro-freedom leader is continuously kept behind bars.
“And this clearly reveals that there is no such thing as law in Jammu and Kashmir but the lawless authorities ruling the roost,” he said.
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) also supported the APHC’s shutdown call against the killing of mother-son duo in Rajouri while appealing the people to make it successful.
