SRINAGAR: A 47-year-old Village Defence Guard (VDG) allegedly died by suicide in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on Wednesday, reports appearing in media said.
The deceased, identified as Omkar Nath, reportedly used his own muzzle-loading gun to shoot himself inside his residence in Nichla village of Ghagwal area.
Family members rushed to his room after hearing a gunshot and found him dead.
The reason behind his action was not immediately known. Police have initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
