Vehicles Involved in Illegal Mining Seized in North Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday seized two tippers allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of sand during a crackdown on unauthorised mining activities in the Wagoora area.

According to officials, the vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK10A-0115 and JK05D-0791, were intercepted at Vizer, Wagoora while transporting sand towards Tangmarg without the requisite documents.

Acting on specific inputs, personnel from Police Post Wagoora stopped the vehicles and found them carrying the mineral in violation of mining regulations. Both tippers were subsequently seized.

The Geology and Mining Department was informed and officials from the department were called to the spot to initiate further action under the relevant provisions of law.

Police said the action forms part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and the unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals in the district.

JK Police reiterated its commitment to tackling illegal mining activities and urged members of the public to cooperate with the authorities in curbing the practice.
