SRINAGAR: NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan on Wednesday filed his nomination for the vice presidential election in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders, according to multiple media reports.
Modi, flanked by Radhakrishnan and top NDA figures, submitted four sets of nomination papers to Rajya Sabha Secretary General and Returning Officer P C Mody. The sets were proposed by PM Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and JDU leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh. After scrutiny, the papers were accepted and an acknowledgement slip was issued.
Radhakrishnan, escorted by Union ministers and leaders from BJP allies, earlier paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and other national icons at Prerna Sthal in Parliament complex.
With the NDA holding a clear majority, Radhakrishnan’s election as the next Vice President is virtually assured.
