Violent protests hit the apple town in North Kashmir Thursday against the arrests made by police in last one week. Police have closed all the entry points of Sopore and is busy in chasing away the protesters.

Sources said that Sopore town witnessed heavy stone pelting from angry youth since morning.

The protests started from Main Chowk, Bus stand and Chane Khun areas against the arrests.

Local sources said that police arrested many youngsters before Lok Sabha election and the number went to dozens in recent days before North Kashmir went to polls yesterday.

Sources said that the protesters raised slogans against police and demanded the release of the arrested youth. As the men in uniform appeared in the area the protesters pelted stones on them resulting in the ding dong battles in the town which were going when the reports last came in.
