Violent protests erupted in North Kashmir’s Bandipora town on Sunday resulting in the injury to five civilians, reports said.

Reports said that to quell the protests police initially chased away the protesters but they reassembled and while raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans pelted stones on the men in uniform.

“The stone pelting and tear gas shelling continued for hours together,” a local said.

Sources added that five people were injured in the ding dong battles including a woman after army allegedly hit her in the head.

“Haleema fell unconscious after troopers of 14 Rashtriya Rifles hit her with gun butts near Ajar Bandipora,” reports said.

“Army barged into the houses in Green Land Colony, Ajar and beat the inmates,” they said. “Major threatened locals of dire consequences if youth again protested in the area,” locals said.

The injured woman has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment while as the last reports came in, stone pelting and tear gas shelling was going on in the area.
