The Executive Councillor for Tourism, Power and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC Kargil, Skalzang Wangyal Wednesday urged Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh for sending of a team from national disaster management force for early solution of the blocked Phuktal River which is a cause of concern for whole Zanskar valley as well as for those living in the low lying areas of Leh and Kargil, a statement said.

“He also  requested the Union  Defence Minister, MOS Home and MP Ladakh for early operation of MI-17 helicopter service for the stranded  passengers of Zanskar who were mostly came as porters for tourists on Chadar trek,” the statement said.

Wangyal urged Deputy Commissioner Leh for making provision of essentially commodities from CA&PD ration store to the stranded passengers at Leh on PDS rate and also requested the GOC-14 corps Leh from possible help from the Indian Army.

Wangyail further directed SDM Zanskar for setting up of gauging station at Phuktal Gonpa, Guru Gonpa and Pipiting for constant monitoring of water level and to report the same to district administration from time to time.

“As per the prediction from Met department there are chances of snowfall during the next three four days, so there will no movement from Kargil to Zanskar by road. Moreover, it was also reported by Additional SP Kargil that travelling from Kargil to Zanskar via Penzila is not possible at the moment. So, all passengers are advice not to take the risks,” the statement said.
