SRINAGAR: With Jammu and Kashmir Police cracking down on drug peddlers/dealers across the Police district of Sopore in north Kashmir, a total of 51 arrests have been made in 31 NDPS cases, while one person has been booked under the PSA (Public Safety Act).

Official figures reveal that at least 31 cases of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) have been registered in North Kashmir’s Sopore since January of this year.

The data shows that 51 drug peddlers were arrested across the Police district, and one notorious drug peddler was booked under the draconian law PSA and is currently held in Jammu jail.

According to the information, 103 bottles of contraband have been recovered so far this year, along with 5,912 banned capsules, 10 kgs of wet Charas, 46 grams of Brown Sugar, 2.70 grams of Heroin, 25 kg of Fuki, 2.5 kgs of cannabis straw, 23.330 kgs of poppy straw, and Rs 56,400 in cash.

Meanwhile, a senior Police official, seeking public cooperation, stated that they will act tough against drug peddlers and dealers, as the police are on a mission to eliminate drug addiction across the district.

He emphasized the role of senior citizens in curbing this menace in society, stating that “Police would be a helping hand to those who want to get rid of drug addiction.”

“Our aim is to make Sopore a drug-free (Police) district. We need your support. Reach out to us and share any information on drug peddlers. Your identity will be kept confidential,” the official said. (KNO)
