Srinagar

Scores of inhabitants from Pattan town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday blocked Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway near Babatang area for hours and thus disrupted the vehicular movement for hours.

The protesters were protesting against the non-availability of drinking water. Protesters alleged that higher officials of PHE Department particularly Executive Engineer and Superintending Engineer are not serious about the problems being faced by locals of Pattan Particularly Chaki Jamal Mir and Arm Mohalla  Pattan on daily basis.

They said there is no drinking water while female folk are visiting different places to fetch the water. “The PHE officials are callous towards our problems. We will hit to roads on daily basis if the department fails to restore the water supply to us,” the protesters told news agency CNS.

The protesters were pacified by police and officials from the district administration. They assured them that they will raise the issue with the higher-ups.

An official from the PHE Department said that majority of the pipelines get frozen due to harsh winter and besides water supply in Tangmarg has suffered damages due to an avalanche. “We are on job and hopefully drinking water will be supplied to the inhabitants of Pattan,” they said. (CNS)
