SRINAGAR

Inhabitants of Khanwari and Kachgari areas of Zaldagar have complained of waterlogging in the locality. The drainage has been so poor and government seemingly so unconcerned that for now people have started migrating from these areas.

“There is continuous water logging in these two localities. We had approached the government officials however no heed was paid to our repeated pleas,” Abdul Rehman Batloo told CNS.

Affected people said that children are unable to attend schools as the lanes and by-lanes are inundated. “Few people have migrated from these localities and we do want to leave the place, however the limited resources force us to live here,” they said.

The locals blamed the poor drainage system as the reason for frequent waterlogging and inundation due to downpour. “We feel ashamed when any guest visits us.  Waterlogged roads have made movement difficult and risky,” the residents said.

The residents said that some houses have even developed cracks.

Appealing district administration to direct concerned officials to act and redress the grievances, they also complained lack of dewatering mechanism in the area.

When contacted MLA Habakadal, Shamema Firdous told CNS that she visited the Khanwari area and everything is alright there. “Kashgari falls in Eidgah constituency but Khanwari area which is a part of my constituency is facing no such problem,” she said.

Despite repeated attempts, MLA, Iddgah could not be contacted.
