The residents of Watergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for “failing to restore water supply in their area”.

The residents of Watergam area assembled at main road here and chanted slogans against the PHE authorities.

They said that the department has failed to restore water supply in their area. “We are facing severe hardships in biting cold as the department has failed has ignored us by not restoring the water supply in our area,” the residents said.

The residents said that the department had earlier assured them that they will provide them water supply through the water lines passing via area but unfortunately after the lines were erected the department claims proved hoax on the ground. “We are forced to walk several kilometers to fetch water. It is unfortunate that the department is taking no measures to fulfill the demands of local inhabitants here,” Shuja Ahmad, one of the residents said.

The residents later appealed the PHE authorities to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at earliest.
