The meteorological department on Thursday forecast rain and snow till Friday in Jammu and Kashmir.

An official of the department said that the rains in the plains and snow in the higher reaches is likely to occur during the next 24 hours till Friday.

He said that from Kathua to Banihal, the heavy spell of  rain/snow/ thunderstorm is expected from today afternoon to tomorrow morning.

As night temperatures rose above the freezing point in Valley, the Srinagar city recorded 1 degree Celsius temperature. The famous hill resort of Pahalgam was at minus 0.3 degree Celsius while Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded 0.8 degrees Celsius, and Kokernag recorded minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded minus 5.0 degrees Celsius, Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered 0.1 degrees Celsius.

Leh town in Ladakh division recorded minus 5.2, Kargil minus 14 and Drass minus 6.2 degrees Celsius.

Jammu city recorded 12.1 degrees Celsius, Katra town 11.4, Batote 3.6, Bannihal 1.0 and Bhaderwah 1.8 as the minimum temperatures.
