SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted light snowfall in upper reaches of Kashmir valley and Zojila pass from tonight.

A weather advisory issued by the MeT has said that as per today’s analysis, light snow is expected over higher reaches of Kashmir, Zojila-Drass axis during evening/night and may continue tomorrow.

“Widespread snow/rain spell of moderate intensity is most likely during January 4 to January 6 in both UTs with main activity on January 5 to January 6,”  said Director Metrological Department Kashmir.

“Heavy Snow is expected at some places during January 5-6 may affect surface and air transportation ,” he said.

“Light Snow is expected over higher reaches of Kashmir during January 2 to January 3,” he added.

Pahalgam, the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley where the minimum temperature was minus 6.1 degrees.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius while Qazigund in south Kashmir registered a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 5.6 degrees Celsius, Katra 5.2, Batote 1.6, Banihal recorded 2.8 and Bhaderwah recorded minus 0.7 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
