Why Didn’t PDP Act on Alcohol Ban While in Power: NC’s Tanvir Sadiq

SRINAGAR: The National Conference (NC) on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of “collectively” playing games and attempting to sabotage issues that affect the common people.

NC Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, while speaking to reporters said that the party has Plan B and Plan C in place in case statehood is not restored.

“Both the PDP and BJP were in power previously, yet they failed to take any steps to ban alcohol. They are collectively playing games and obstructing public welfare initiatives,” he said.

Responding to a question about Mehbooba Mufti seeking support for bills, including the alcohol ban, Sadiq questioned why she did not take such steps when she was in power. “Present situation is a consequence of her tenure and that had she governed properly, Article 370 would not have been abrogated.”

“We will ask them why they did not take these measures in the last ten years when they were busy distributing shawls and implementing acts like GST,” he said.

On the government’s plans regarding the restoration of statehood, Sadiq said they remain hopeful as both the Prime Minister and Home Minister have given assurances, while the Supreme Court has also issued directions on the matter.

“Why should we believe that it will not be restored? However, Omar Sahab has said that we have Plan B and Plan C in place if statehood is not reinstated,” he added.

Furthermore, he asserted that the NC enjoys a full majority and will fulfill its manifesto promises, adding that they do not need advice from others.
