SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over the next two days, with isolated heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds expected in parts of the Union Territory, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions on September 1.
The weather office has forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in Kashmir on August 31 and September 1. In Jammu division, isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely during the same period.
The IMD warned that heavy spells could trigger landslides, mudslides and flash floods at vulnerable locations and advised people to remain alert to changing weather conditions.
Weather activity is expected to gradually decrease from September 2. Kashmir is likely to receive fairly widespread rainfall on that day, while scattered rain is forecast across Jammu division.
From September 3 to September 5, rainfall activity is expected to remain isolated in Kashmir and scattered in Jammu. Isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely in Jammu division during the period.
The Meteorological Department has urged residents, particularly those living in areas vulnerable to landslides, mudslides and flash floods, to stay updated about the latest weather developments and exercise caution.
