National Conference Thursday reiterated its stand of fighting for the rights of the people against forces inimical to the unity and integrity of the state.

Addressing a marathon review meeting at party headquarters Nawa-e-Subah for the upcoming State Delgates’ Convention in Srinagar later this month, Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said, “Present dispensation of PDP-BJP combine has time and again proved that their interests lie only in keeping their chair safe. What people of the State are going through in terms of turmoil-ridden security scenario, massacres, non-availability of essential commodities is something they are hardly bothered with. They have even forgotten to take into account the current spree of braid chopping incidents across the Valley and have failed miserably in assuaging the fears of general people particularly that of our mothers and sisters.”

The meeting also expressed a sense of deep disappointment over the casual and irresponsible attitude of the State Cabinet and the Chief Minister made evident by the fact that almost half of the State Cabinet gave the recently held Cabinet Meeting a miss. “This Government has shamelessly conceded the power of cabinet decisions to a select particular lobby. There is a thriving transfer industry operating outside the powers of the Chief Minister and the Cabinet”.

“All the speakers congratulated the party leadership for taking the initiative of organizing a grand party convention after 15 years. Many issues concerning the party and its workers were raised in the meeting and appropriate decisions were taken to make the convention a grand convention. In that direction all the constituency in charges were directed to make necessary arrangement s for the smooth conduct of the convention,” the statement reads.

Among those who were present in the meeting include Additional general Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, state vice president Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzaan, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, senior leaders including Mian Altaf, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mubarak Gul, Mohammad Syed Akhoon, Sakina Itoo, Ali Mohammad Dar, MLAs Ab Majeed Bhat (larmi), Altaf Kaloo, District Presidents, Womens wing Provincial President Shameema Firdous, Irfan Shah, Javed Dar, Minority Cell Incharge Sardar Jagdish Singh Azad Ji, Provincial President YNC Salman Ali Sagar, Mushtaq Guroo, Provincial Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Sabiya Qadri and Mudassir Shahmiri

The meeting also reiterated a need for having a defined political outreach and simultaneously congratulated the party leadership for its stand on states special status including on Art 35 A/370. Talking about the proposed general convention Sagar said, “The convention should not be looked as an ordinary party convention. It is a political convention and will therefore delve on the political spectrum of the sub continent. Therefore a clear message should go across the younger generation including women that NC will continue to protect their interests and will fight for their needs.  The convention holds significance in the sens that it is being conducted at a time when our state is going through a critical phase. It therefore is important to make the convention a grand success.”
