A windstorm followed by heavy rains on Monday uprooted trees and caused extensive damage to scores of residential houses, vehicles and orchards in north Kashmir’s Sopore town.

Reports said that dozens of houses, cowsheds, apple orchards, electric poles and standing crops were damaged and a number of trees were uprooted as incessant rains with windstorm lashed the area.

The areas including Duroo, Warpora, Malmapanpora, Hathlangoo and Magrapora villages of Sopore suffered extensive damage, reports said. Many popular and trees were uprooted due to a wind storm, reports added.

Following the windstorm, power supply in parts of north Kashmir has also been snapped due to the breaking of poles and cables. However, there was no immediate report of any human loss.

Meanwhile, reports from Tral area of Pulwama district suggest that heavy rains followed by windstorm damaged the scores of vehicles and other belongings in Dadsara area of Tral.
