Six Chinar trees were uprooted during the strong windstorm on Tuesday afternoon at Shalimar garden in Srinagar district.

An official said that more than century-year-old six Chinar trees were uprooted at Shalimarbagh following the windstorms in the area.

During the incident tourists who were inside the Shalimar garden, were rescued by the police and road which connects Shalimar to Harwan was also cleared.

The official added that the men and machinery have been pressed into the service to clear the remains of the six chinar trees at Shalimar garden.

During the incident on Tuesday afternoon, a family had a narrow escape after a tree branch fell on their residential house, however, the family escaped unhurt in central Kashmir’s Beerwah town, while several houses were also damaged.

In Kashmir University, two private vehicles were damaged after branches of a chinar tree fell on them, damaging it completely.
