A Woman from south Kashmir Islamabad district today accused local revenue officials of harassing her.
“Gowhar Ahmad Patwari of Bedir Kokoernag entered into the residential house of Mohammad Yosuf Wani R/o Bider in absence of any male member of family and issued threats to Misra wife of Yosuf”, said Eye Witnesses.
“Gowhar used abusive language against the woman and asked her to cut down the trees to pave way to one of his close relative falling within the neighborhood of Wani”, they said.
Expressing resentment over the alleged misbehavior of the Patwari, Misra said, “I was alone at home. Someone shouted at my door in anger and asked me to come out. I got scared and told him that he should come later as no male member was at home. The Patwari forcefully entered into the house and threatened me of dire consequences if we failed to cut down the trees within days to pave way to his close relative in our neighborhood”.
She said that after some time Patwari visited the locality when a member of local Auqaf was accompanying him.
She said that the concerned Tehsildar Syed Farooq has also warned the family to cut down the trees earlier, adding, “We asked Tehsildar to give in writing the directions and order for cutting down the tress and acquisition of our land. But he refused to do it claiming that higher officials issue orders and directions verbally”.
She said that though family approached the office with an application to provide a written order but no official notice was served to them till date.
When contacted, Gowhar Ahmad, said that he was acting on the directions of the Tehsildar. When asked if the authorities have served any notice to the Wani, he answered in negative.
Deputy Commissioner Ananthnag Farooq Ahmad Shah told a local news agency KNS that strict action would be taken against the Patwari or any other official, if found guilty. “No one will be allowed to dictate the terms but to follow the rules laid down”, said DC Islamabad.
