SRINAGAR: A woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a bear in the Arai Malkaan area of Mandi tehsil in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday, marking the third consecutive day of bear attacks reported from the region, officials said.
The injured has been identified as Tazeem Akhtar, wife of Mohammad Taj and a resident of Arai Malkaan.
According to reports, the woman was carrying out routine work near her home when the bear attacked her, inflicting serious injuries. Hearing her cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot, forcing the animal to flee.
She was shifted by ambulance to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Mandi, where doctors provided initial treatment before referring her to the District Hospital, Poonch, for specialised medical care.
Officials said the woman was undergoing treatment, while local authorities have urged residents in forest-fringe areas to remain vigilant amid a spate of recent bear attacks.
