Woman Rescued From Jhelum After Jump in Srinagar

   

SRINAGAR: A woman was rescued after allegedly jumping into the River Jhelum from Amira Kadal bridge in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area on Saturday, officials said.

The woman was pulled out of the river following a swift rescue operation carried out by personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police with assistance from local residents.

Eyewitnesses said the woman jumped into the river from the bridge, triggering panic among people in the vicinity. Locals immediately raised an alarm and alerted the authorities, following which rescue teams rushed to the spot.

Officials said the SDRF and police personnel successfully rescued the woman before she could drown. She was subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Authorities said efforts were underway to ascertain her identity, while the circumstances that led to the incident were being investigated.

Officials have not disclosed further details regarding her condition or the reasons behind the alleged jump. (KNT)
