SRINAGAR: The body of a 21-year-old woman was recovered from a power canal in the Gund area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday, while rescue teams continued their search for a man feared drowned at the same location.
Officials said the incident occurred in the power canal near Gund, where two persons reportedly drowned, prompting a major rescue operation.
Soon after the incident was reported, teams from the police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched extensive searches along the canal.
After several hours of operation, rescuers recovered the woman’s body from the canal and shifted it for further legal formalities.
Meanwhile, search teams continued combing the canal and adjoining areas to trace the second missing person, who remained untraced at the time of filing this report.
Officials said the rescue operation was continuing and further details were awaited.
