SRINAGAR: Senior National Conference Leader and Former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra said that for overall development it is high time to promote Women’s Empowerment to give a sense of self-worth their ability to determine their own choices and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.

According to Kumar Sadhotra while addressing a meeting of prominent women leaders of Marh Block at his residence.

He said, “it is unfortunate that after about 75 years of independence, despite a lot of progress women & girls continue to face discrimination, violence and sense of insecurity. It shows much more needs to be done for the empowerment of the women.”

Sadhotra emphasized the need for Social, Political especially Economic empowerment of women so that sense of equality without any discrimination is felt by women.

He said it was the vision of National Conference Leadership that the party have a special programme of Women Empowerment in its “Naya Kashmir Programme”

National Conference Leader said, NC is committed to women empowerment it is the National Conference Govt. headed by Dr Farooq Abdullah who started selecting 50% women (girl students) for MBBS training and moreover Women Police Station for dealing crime against women were created with only female staff so that women could come and narrate their problems to get justice. Women Right Commission and Women Development Corporation were also constituted.”

Sadhotra demanded immediate comprehensive policy for women empowerment especially economic empowerment in this time when prices are skyrocketing and women are facing hard to run their kitchen.

“Every woman must be made to earn, it will give social empowerment also. Empowerment of women will lead to the overall development of the Country he asserted,” he said.

“Others who spoke on the occasion are Ghar Singh Corporator Darshana Bhagat, Seema Devi, Darshana, Mrs Pooja, Sheetal, Jyoti Devi,” said the statement.
