Senior National Conference Leader, MLA Habba Kadal Shamima Firdous on Monday assumed charge as the State President of National Conference Women’s Wing at a function held at NC Headquarters, ‘Nawa-e-Subha’ in Srinagar. On this occasion, Party leader Sabiya Qadri assumed the charge of Provincial President Kashmir of National Conference Women’s Wing. Both leaders were accorded a warm welcome at the Party Headquarters by senior leaders and hundreds of party activists and workers.
Speaking on the occasion State President of NC Women’s Wing Shamima Firdous thanked the Party President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah for reposing faith in her and providing her with an opportunity to serve the party and the people of the State. Pledging to further strengthen the party’s women’s wing across the State, Shamima Firdous said she would leave no stone unturned to reach out to women workers and activists at the grassroots level.
“Women have borne the brunt of instability and turmoil in the State and in the past three years women have been at the receiving end of unimaginable repression and injustice. They have lost their lives in excesses and there have been repeated assaults on their sense of dignity and honour. The Women’s Wing will leave no stone unturned to fight for the rights of women and will empower our women activists for the strengthening of the party,” Shamima Firdous said.
Addressing the gathering, NC Women’s Wing Provincial President Sabiya Qadri thanked the party leadership for reposing faith in her and said the party’s women’s wing forms an integral and vital part of the organization’s efforts to reach out to the people. “In the present day circumstances where women are facing gross injustice and oppression at the hands of the PDP-BJP regime, we will all work together and with utmost commitment and diligence to fight injustice and empower our womenfolk. I thank the party leadership for this opportunity and will try my best to fulfill all expectations,” Sabiya Qadri said.
Senior Party Leaders including NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Muhammad Sayeed Akhoon, Advocate Showkat Ahmed Mir, Peer Muhammad Afaq, Salman Ali Sagar, Sheikh Muhammad Rafi and Sardar Jagdish Singh Azad were present on the occasion and felicitated Shamima Firdous and Sabiya Qadri for assuming charge of their new responsibilities.
