For years, locals from Kullan and adjoining villages have been demanding improved health facilities, pointing to the difficulties they face in accessing timely treatment.

The new PHC, once completed, is expected to ease the burden on existing centres and provide essential services including primary care, maternal and child health support, and emergency treatment.

Residents welcomed the move, describing it as a “ray of hope” for thousands of families. “This was a long-pending demand. We hope the government ensures timely completion so that people don’t have to travel long distances for basic treatment,” said a local villager.

Another resident, Ahmad Omar, said, “In emergencies, especially during winters when roads remain blocked, people suffer a lot. This new health centre will save lives.”

Besides, Shazia Bano, a local woman, added, “For maternity care, women had to travel to Ganderbal or Srinagar. We are hopeful this facility will ease the hardships faced by women in our area.”

Officials said the project has been taken up on priority and assured that the work will be completed within the set timeframe, bringing much-needed relief to the community—(KNO)
