The southern part of Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday observed a complete shutdown against the poor supply of electricity.

The protesters alleged that PDP-led coalition government has a grudge against the citizens of the district that is why they are being denied supply of electricity. “I have not seen such an erratic supply during my life,” observed a 60 year old Abdul Rehman.

He said, “there is no time schedule for curtailment. During entire day we are subjected to numerous power cuts which exposes the official curtailment announced for the winter this season.”

Another protester, Abdul Ahad , said, “We see no power during evenings not to speak during night or day. Another protester in main town Shopian told Kashmir Wire that this is worst power crisis the district is facing for the last 30 years.

A number of clashes between the protesters and Police broke out in the district but there was no immediate report of any injuries. Police used lathis and fired dozens of tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. However, they responded with stones and the clashes were going on till this report was filed.
