SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have solved a cold-blooded murder case of youth in north Kashmir’s Handwara and arrested the accused involved in the commission of a crime after carrying out an investigation.

A police spokesman in a statement said that on June 11, 2020, Police Station Qalamabad received a complaint from Saif Ud Din Tanchi son of Ghulam Akbar resident of Lahikoote Monbal that one Fareed Ahmad Tanchi resident of Monbal Lahikoote has abducted his daughter. Accordingly, case FIR No. 58/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Qalamabad and investigation was set into motion.

“During the course of the investigation, officers from PS Qalamabad recovered the abducted girl and arrested the alleged accused person. The abducted girl was handed over to her legal heirs after completion of medico-legal formalities. The accused person was shifted to PS Qalamabad where he remains in custody,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman said that on June 12, 2020, Police Station Qalambad received a complaint from Bashir Ahmad Tanchi son of Raj Tanchi resident of Monbal Lahikoote against Saif Din Tanchi son of Akbar Tanchi and other nine accused persons that they attacked the house of his nephew Mushtaq Ahmad Tanchi son of Hakim Din resident of Lahikoote Monbal.

“During the scuffle, Mushtaq Ahmad Tanchi received grievous injuries on his head. Accordingly, case FIR No. 59/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in PS Qalamabad and investigation was initiated,” he said.

“During the course of the investigation, the injured Mushtaq Ahmad Tanchi was shifted to District Hospital Handwara for treatment wherefrom he was referred to SKIMS Soura Srinagar for advanced treatment but on 15-06-2020 he succumbed to his injuries. After completing all medico-legal formalities his body was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites and section 302 IPC was incorporated into the case,” he added.

The spokesman said that Handwara Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SDPO Handwara Tariq Mahmood-JKPS under the close supervision of   SP Handwara Dr G V Sundeep  Chakravarthy-IPS for the investigation of the case.

“During the course of an investigation, officers arrested four of the alleged accused persons but on questioned no clue struck to the investigating officers,” he said.

“Today on 19-06-2020 P/S Qalamabad while continuing its efforts to solve the murder apprehended one Mohammad Akbar Tanchi son of Hakim Din Tanchi who happens to be the elder brother of the deceased was put on questioning. During questioning, the said person disclosed that he has attacked his own brother with an axe and falsely implicated the names of relatives of the abducted girl to take revenge from the father of the abducted girl.  On his disclosure weapon of offence and mobile of the deceased was recovered,” he added.

Further investigation in the matter is going on, said police.
