Awami Ittehad Party chief and incumbent Langate lawmaker, Er Rasheed, who was on a sit-in protest outside CM Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence, was Saturday “forcibly” shifted to his residence at Jawahar Nagar by a contingent of Police.

Rasheed had started a 48-hour-long sit-in protest outside CM Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence on Friday at 11:30 am against the ‘domicile certificate issue’.

Braving the chilly night temperature, that the MeT department said was at minus 4.4 degrees Celsius, Rasheed continued his protest along with his supporters during the night.

Rasheed is demanding that the granting of domicile certificates to WP refugees be stopped immediately. He called the move “changing the demographic structure of Jammu Kashmir”.

Inam-un-Nabi, the spokesperson of Rasheed said that at around 11:30 am in the morning today a team of police led by SHO Sabzar Ahmad reached the spot and dragged Er Rasheed into a vehicle. “He was later shifted to his residence in government quarters at Jawahar Nagar.”

Late, last night Rasheed had told Kashmir Life that he will continue his protest for complete 48 hours come what may.
